Cam Newton ... in a Falcons uniform?

It’s something the greatest quarterback in Carolina Panthers history is open to.

“Me having a family now, it’s always been about family,” Newton said on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football on Tuesday. “I don’t see myself leaving Atlanta.”

He added: “So if it’s not Atlanta, I don’t want to do it.”

Newton’s potential return to the NFL has been a talking point since he exited for good after the 2021 season, right after the exciting yet loss-riddled run he made with his second stint with the Carolina Panthers. Rumblings have been amplified in the past few years, too, as Newton has gone all-in on hosting and producing his YouTube show “Fourth & 1” — which has been home to some of the NFL’s most debated topics of the 2023 season. (The game-manager quarterback vs. game-changer quarterback debate is still ringing in the ears of many as these playoffs unfold.)

And on Tuesday, the man who once embodied Superman in Bank of America Stadium shared that there is really one team he’d like to play for, and it happens to be the Panthers’ biggest NFC South rival.

Casting aside the feelings of rivalry: the sentiment makes a lot of sense. Newton was born in Atlanta and is a resident of the city today. The Falcons, at the moment, are faced with a quarterback dilemma of their own. And one of the top candidates to replace Arthur Smith as head coach in Atlanta is Bill Belichick — an all-time great coach who Newton has previously played for.

Newton has expressed interest in returning to the NFL previously. He did so as early as around Thanksgiving, when injuries rendered a whole bunch of teams in need of a quarterback. Newton didn’t suit up for a team then.

He added on the show that he is dedicated to his work as a YouTuber/football analyst and his family.

“I’ve really turned into a YouTuber (and) full-time dad,” Newton said.
