Cam Rising shares full extent of his injury

Utah quarterback Cam Rising shared an update on his health on “The Bill Riley Show” on ESPN 700 Thursday afternoon, revealing that the extent of his injury was more than an ACL tear.

“I think it’s important that I just kind of let everybody know I didn’t just tear my ACL, I tore my ACL, meniscus, MPFL and MCL. It was a big surgery and it’s not an easy comeback and I’ve been working my tail off,” Rising said.

Rising had surgery in January following the Rose Bowl, where he exited with a knee injury, to repair his knee.

You could hear the frustration in Rising’s voice as he described how he is working to get back and return to lead Utah in a game.

“I‘m grinding and doing everything I possibly can and even the fact that I’m going out there and practicing and everything is I’m ahead of schedule and just I’m trying to make sure that I can be out there,” Rising said. “No one wants to be out there with those guys just grinding on the field more than me.”

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said that Rising has been practicing without limitations since after the homer opener against Florida.

But Rising has still not been cleared to return to game action.

The doctor that will give final approval for Rising’s return to game play is Dr. Neal S ElAttrache, who performed Rising’s surgery, along with Utah tight end Brant Kuithe’s. He’s done surgeries on a number of NFL stars, including Aaron Rodgers’ recent Achilles procedure.

“At the end of the day, it’s my body. If my body has to recover and there’s not really anyone that can say much besides the best doctor in the world, Dr. ElAttrache, down in L.A.,” Rising said.

As for if he will return for Utah’s game against Cal on Oct. 14, that’s still up in the air right now. Rising said that the verdict from ElAttrache will come Sunday or Monday.

“Get back on the field as soon as possible, but just got to make sure that’s in a safe way and yeah, that’s why I got Dr. ElAttrache in my corner making sure that I’m safe and protected and yeah, just happy to have the best doctor in the world right there with me,” Rising said.
