Camarillo man shot, killed in Port Hueneme

An 18-year-old Camarillo man was shot and killed over the weekend in Port Hueneme in what police are investigating as a homicide.

Officers said the man was found dead in the Anchor Avenue area, east of Channel Islands Harbor, shortly after they responded to a report of shots being fired in that location at 11:55 p.m. Sunday. The crime is believed to have occurred in the Marina Village neighborhood near the intersection of Anchor Avenue and Marina Village street, said Scott Matalon, spokesman for the Port Hueneme Police Department.

Police have no suspects in custody but the investigation is ongoing, Matalon said. He said the victim died at the scene. The agency did not release the victim's name.

Officers are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Supervising Detective Baltazar Tapia at 805-986-6619 or contact him via email at btapia@cityofporthueneme.org.

It was the second homicide reported in Ventura County in two days. Police in Santa Paula are looking for suspects in the shooting of a man in his 50s, who was found dead on the ground on Whipple Road on the east side of town around 3:15 p.m. Saturday. He was treated at the scene and taken to Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, where he was pronounced dead around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
