Randall from Cambridge City claimed a $255,500 CA$H 5 prize after matching all five numbers in the Jan. 30 drawing.

CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind. — When first one number, then another, then another matched, a Cambridge City man's excitement built as his wife read CA$H 5 drawing numbers to him.

“Once the first two numbers matched, I said, ‘That’s a free ticket,’" said the winner of the Jan. 30 drawing, who asked Hoosier Lottery officials to only publicly identify him by his first name, Randall, according to a Hoosier Lottery news release.

"When the third number matched I said, ‘That’s fifteen bucks!’ The fourth number matched and I said, ‘$200!’ When the fifth number matched, I looked at my wife and exclaimed, ‘I’ve got that!’”

Her sarcastic reply, “Sure you do.”

“Oh yes I do!” said Randall, dropping the notepad on which he was recording the numbers in front of her. “Read that number!”

Hoosier Lottery winner hits jackpot

Randall, 68, was the only player to match all five numbers — 4-8-16-23-45 — from the Jan. 30 drawing, and just days later, he collected a $255,500 jackpot at the Hoosier Lottery's Indianapolis office, the release said. He said the winnings will go in the bank, because the couple has no debt.

Randall purchased the winning ticket at Bob-O-Link Liquors at 19 W. Main St. in Cambridge City. His odds of matching all the numbers were 1 in 1,221,759, according to Hoosier Lottery.

“The moment I showed her the ticket my wife went numb," Randall said. "I don’t know what to say. It is certainly taking a while for this to sink in.”

The couple enjoys reviewing lottery numbers on Mondays, sitting in their recliners that flank a coffee table, according to the release. Randall, who retired from factory work in 2005, has played both draw and scratch-off games since the Hoosier Lottery began in 1989.

Even with the big win, the couple plans to continue their lottery routine.

“Oh, yeah, I will keep playing,” Randall said.

The $255,500 is among the big lottery prizes claimed by Wayne County residents.
