Cambridge City Schools board meeting notes

Cambridge City Schools will move from a traditional report card to a standard-based report card for elementary students. Jill Clay discussed the Ready Math and Really Great Reading curriculums that were implemented in the 2021-2022 school year, previewed the Dyslexia law requirements and shared plans to select a core ELA curriculum for elementary grades, at a recent Cambridge City Schools Board of Education meeting.

Tanya Hitchens with the Guernsey County Board of Developmental Disabilities presented a pair of grants of more than $215,000 to help the district provide better education to students with disabilities.

Since 2014, Guernsey County Board of DD has awarded Cambridge City School District more than $1.2 million.

In other business, the board approved:

  • A one-year food service management contract with the Nutrition Group.

  • A bid from Advanced Caulking and Restoration for bleacher renovations at McFarland Stadium.

  • An agreement with Zane State College for College Credit Plus service.

  • An agreement with the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center for the purchase of the following: psychological services, Career Navigator services, student support specialist, managed IT, behavioral support specialist, curriculum consultant service, speech-language pathology service, educational aide service, instructional service, occupational therapy service, physical therapy service, gifted coordination service, 21st Century Program manager, communications coordinator service, audiology service, ESY PT & PTA service, ASL Service, EL Service.

  • Membership in the Buckeye 8 Athletic Conference.

The board rescinded previously approved hirings for Summer CATS Camp and then approved the hirings  due to new grant funding to support the positions.

In personnel matters, the board approved:

  • The extended service of Tammy Province; unpaid leaves of absence for Jennifer Ball, Tiffany Elston, Tamara LePage, and Kelly Dunning; and unpaid maternity leave for Christina Servais.

  • Jeremy Wheeler, Neal Stillion, Annie Price, Christal White, Jan Leeper, and Raylin Forshey as bus drivers for Summer CATS Camp; Melissa Wheeler as a bus aide for Summer CATS Camp; Jay Heady as a substitute bus driver for Summer CATS Camp; Cheryl Edwards, Tiffany Elston, Teresa Bacon, Michelle McClellan, and Amanda Markley as substitute summer cooks; Emma Stinson as a substitute cook; and seasonal employment for Brayden Bonnell.

  • The hiring of Kelly Fehrman, Kensley Taylor, Natalie Long, Cassie Bunting, and Gage Stocker as Summer CATS Camp aides, and Kyle Pertuset, Alaina Tharp, and Morgan Stocker as Summer CATS Camp teachers.

  • Amanda Miller as a first-grade teacher, Kimberly Lynn as anintervention specialist, Skylar Dyrst as a kindergarten teacher, Amy McLain as a kindergarten teacher, Kristina Ward as an intervention specialist, Breanna Bailey as a fourth-grade teacher and Zachary Krnach as high school music teacher for one-year limited contracts. Krnach was also awarded a supplemental contract to be the band director for the 2022-2023 school year.

  • Jennifer Scrudders and Pippa Mikes as home instructors; Stephanie Massey as a classroom aide and Lisa Daugherty, Cheryl Allen, Judy McPeek, and Amanda Cincinat as attendant aides.

  • Angela Hayhurst, Laura Golden, and Laurie Goggin for multisensory structured literacy certified teacher/stipend positions.

  • Approved the resignations of Charla Kemp, Morgan Burke, Jessica Pierce, Jason Linn, Kollin Clark, Andrew Slaughter, Ricky Harvey, Martha Chessler, and Kevin Yurik, and the retirement of Marquerite Younker.

A special board meeting will be held at 8 a.m. June 28, with the next regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. July 21.
