Camden County Health Hub Adds COVID-19 Testing, Amends Hours

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Camden County Health Hub is modifying its hours and services as the health needs of the community change heading into the holiday season, county officials said Wednesday morning.

The Camden County Health Department and Cooper University Health Care will begin offering COVID-19 testing at the Health Hub on Dec. 20, officials announced.

Testing will be available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The Health Hub is located at Camden County College, 200 College Drive, in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township.

The Health Hub opened in October amid an expanded need for COVID-19 vaccine booster shots and vaccines for the 5 to 11 age group, pending approval at the time. Read more here: New Camden County Health Hub Will Include COVID-19 Boosters

The vaccine clinic will continue to operate from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday until Jan. 4. At that time, hours will be consolidated to Tuesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“With case counts on the rise and the holidays coming up, it’s crucial that we have testing and vaccines readily available for our residents,” Camden County Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said. “The testing component will be especially useful because people are going to want to get tested before gathering with their families and friends for Christmas and New Year’s Eve.”

Pediatric doses of the Pfizer vaccine are now being given in two of the medical tents at the facility, and adult doses will still be administered as a drive-thru operation, weather permitting.

“You will still be able to come to the Health Hub for your first or second dose or your booster shot,” Cappelli said. “We want to reemphasize the importance of getting vaccinated. As the weather gets colder and more people move indoors, the risk of contracting the virus becomes greater. But if you’re vaccinated, you have a much lower chance of getting seriously ill or dying compared to those who are not. So please, get vaccinated and get your booster. As of Wednesday morning, there have been 64,166 coronavirus cases and 1,370 coronavirus-related deaths in Camden County since the pandemic began in March 2020, according to the Camden County Health Department.

There were 174 new cases reported on Wednesday, 35 of which involved residents under the age of 18. The average age of the newly infected is 39 years old.

“As daily case counts remain high, we want to urge everyone to get vaccinated if you haven’t already done so,” Cappelli said. “Vaccines are the best way we can stay safe and avoid serious illness or death from COVID-19, so please get yours. Health officials are also recommending that all adults get a booster shot, regardless of prior health qualifiers. As of Wednesday morning, 324,192 Camden County residents are fully vaccinated, and 91,604 have received a third dose. The number of residents with at least one dose was not available as of Wednesday morning.

The Camden County Health Department is continuing to closely track new cases of COVID-19 and information regarding the prevalence of the Delta variant. New cases are often reassigned to other municipalities over the course of an investigation.
