Cameron hospital to stop taking Cigna Medicare Advantage

Nov. 23—Cameron Regional Medical Center no longer will accept Cigna Medicare Advantage plans as an in-network healthcare provider after December.

The hospital has been reviewing the possibility of severing the relationship for several months. It will go into effect on Dec. 31, according to a press release from the hospital Wednesday.

The decision came two days after reports were released that some Medicare Advantage plans had been overcharging patients.

Cameron Regional CEO Joe Abrutz discussed in an exclusive interview with News-Press NOW on Nov. 6 that the hospital was investigating whether it should stop accepting most Medicare Advantage as in-network health care. CRMC still is reviewing all Medicare Advantage plans, according to the hospital's press release.

The hospital will take patients with Cigna Medicare Advantage for "emergency services," according to the press release.
