Cameron Mitchell Restaurants will take over the former home of G. Michael's for an unnamed Italian fine dining concept expected to open this fall.

The German Village space, at 595 S. 3rd St., is currently under development. It's a prime location for the company, which has been seeking a spot in the Village for the past 15 years.

Previous occupants G. Michael's Bistro & Bar closed in 2021 after 23 years in business, a blow to fans of the independent upscale-casual restaurant.

Now, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants looks to add the space to its 23 Columbus-area locations and 19 concepts nationwide.

"(The location) provides excellent visibility and a great opportunity to expand the culinary scene of the community," reads a statement from Cameron Mitchell Restaurants. "German Village features some of the best restaurants in the city, and this fact, as well as the location of the building in the heart of the village, are why we are excited to build our newest concept here."

Cameron Mitchell Restaurants will be leasing the first floor and part of the second floor, while the remaining space is reserved for an office tenant. The company will also look to have an outdoor terrace approved by the German Village Commission.

This is the second Italian fare concept announced by Cameron Mitchell Restaurants in the last year following Valentina's, expected to debut in Dublin's Bridge Park later this year.

David Miller, president and COO of Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, said Valentina's will be a more "polished-casual" experience with fresh pasta and pizza, and Northern Italian influences, while the German Village concept will be a much more intimate experience featuring classic Italian dishes, with a modern flair.

"German Village is a great market, and so is Dublin, but they're two different consumers," he said. "Two different areas of town, they're over 30 minutes apart, so the menus will be completely different."

More details are expected as the project progresses.
