Cameron Peak Fire burn area under flash flood warning Wednesday afternoon

Debris lays along the banks of the Cache la Poudre River from the July 20 flash flood and mudslide near Rustic on Aug. 4, 2021. The flood killed four people.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for north central Colorado, including parts of the Cameron Peak Fire burn area, Wednesday afternoon.

The warning was issued just after 3 p.m. and is in effect until 6 p.m.

Flash flooding is expected in gulches along Colorado Highway 14 and above Rustic, according to the alert. Expect water to rise and large debris in the Poudre River through Pingree Hill, Goodell Corner, Bellaire Lake and Crown Point Road.

Heavy rain will likely cause flash flooding in small creeks, streams and ditches in the Cameron Peak burn area in that region, according to the alert.

Rock slides or other debris flows can also occur on rural roads.
