Camila Mendes and Charles Melton have reportedly broken up after dating for a little over a year, according to E!. Throughout their courtship, the couple/Riverdale co-stars have been no stranger to public displays of affection. Here, a look back at the relationship that was.
June 2018: Mendes has been open about her past battle with bulimia and has become an outspoken champion for body positivity. So when some of Melton’s old fat-shaming tweets went viral, Mendes went on the record to say that he had called her to personally apologize.
“He was devastated—he felt really sorry about it and he called me personally and he said, with everything that I stand for, [that] he’s really sorry,” she told Access. “I know Charles, I know he’s not actually a bad person. And I think it’s a matter of sometimes you tweet something a long time ago and they’re buried in there and they come out, and it sucks, and I do not agree with anything he said or support those statements, but I know that’s not who he is.”
August 2018: A couple months later, People reported that Mendes and her boyfriend of a few months, Victor Houston, had broken up. The two were childhood friends from her home state of Florida, and Houston was said to be “heartbroken” over the split.
October 2018: After being spotted out and about together on multiple occasions, Mendes confirmed that she and Melton were officially dating in a post on Instagram showing Melton kissing her on the forehead. She captioned the photo: “Mine.”

February 2019: After only six months of dating, the couple sent the Internet into a panic when Melton showed off a “Cami” tattoo on his chest. Mendes cleared the air on Twitter writing, “The tat is fake lol thought it was obvious from the sticky patch around it but guess not.”
May 2019: In May, Mendes and Melton made their Met Gala debut together, walking the famous carpet at New York’s Met Museum. Later that month, while attending the premiere for Melton’s film, The Sun Is Also a Star, Mendes opened up about their relationship.
“He does [write me love letters]. He’s a hopeless romantic, for sure,” she told Entertainment Tonight.
August 2019: The couple celebrated their one-year anniversary in August. Mendes posted a photo of them on a boat together writing, “365 days. I love you.”

October 2019: Melton shared an on-set photo of himself, Mendes, and co-stars Vanessa Morgan and Madelaine Petsch in their Riverdale High football and cheerleader uniforms on October 29. It would end up being the last photo of the offscreen couple together on Instagram prior to news of their split.

December 2019: E! reports that Melton and Mendes are "taking a break" from their relationship of more than a year. A source tells the outlet that the official split happened months ago. "Cami and Charles have been separated for a few months now," the source said. "They are taking a break from their relationship. Their relationship escalated very quickly and they are taking time now to focus on their work and themselves."
As for the cause of the breakup, the source explained, "They both have movie projects separately and it's been a lot on both their plates. Nothing in particular happened, they just both felt busy and overwhelmed and it was a lot of pressure on them."
But the insider also stressed that the couple is maintaining a professional relationship. "They are still in touch and both understand they need to be cordial while on set and throughout press for the show," the source told E!. "They have been filming together while being split and things have been normal."
