Campaign cash: Big donors in Gaston County's District Court judge race
The campaign for Gaston County's contested District Court judge seat shows the incumbent with a decided advantage in campaign cash heading into Tuesday's primary election.
Republican District Court Judge Craig Collins has raised twice the amount of money and far outspent his primary challenger, Ashley Hyman.
The winner of Tuesday's primary does not face a ballot opponent in November.
Bottom line
Collins, who won his first full term in 2018 after being appointed to the bench two years earlier, has raised $62,847 in his re-election campaign. He has spent $35,594 through April 30, according to campaign finance reports filed with the State Board of Elections in May.
Hyman, who has spent the last six years as an attorney for Gaston County Department of Health and Human Services, has raised $27,557 for her campaign and spent $20,108, according to campaign finance reports.
