- Saint Paul is on a mission to support restaurants and breweries hit hard during the pandemic.

- Dine Saint Paul is a new marketing campaign to show off the diverse selection of restaurants in the capital city while encouraging the public to support them. WCCO's Reg Chapman has more on how Dine Saint Paul hopes to help get these struggling businesses on the road to recovery.

REG CHAPMAN: Since 1979, this mercado and restaurant have been a big part of the Saint Paul community. But when COVID-19 hit, business almost came to a halt.

MILISSA SILVA: Yeah, we were more than 50% down in sales, for sure.

REG CHAPMAN: Milissa Silva says she is one of the lucky ones.

MILISSA SILVA: If El Burrito did not start out having the mercado and the deli, I don't know that-- I don't know that we'd be here.

REG CHAPMAN: Grateful to still be open, Silva knows how important it is to get people back inside and enjoying a meal. That's why she is signing on to take part in Dine Saint Paul.

- Food is life.

REG CHAPMAN: The campaign is largely a digital effort encouraging support through dine-in, dine-out, takeout, and delivery. By registering at dinesaintpaul.com, you will get a weekly email with restaurant suggestions to be entered for a chance to win a daily restaurant gift card.

MILISSA SILVA: I love that they're doing this in a fun way, that the campaign is, obviously, to help businesses revitalize, but also-- and bring in new customers-- but also, it's-- they make it fun and interactive for the-- for the [? customer. ?]

REG CHAPMAN: These restaurants hope people take time to explore the local food scene.

NICOLLE GOODMAN: --to go to your local restaurant, take a picture, put on your social media #DineSaintPaul.

REG CHAPMAN: Director of planning and economic development, Nicolle Goodman says using that hashtag can get you featured on Visit Saint Paul's social media. It will take all of us to help rebuild the local economy. And the city of Saint Paul knows local restaurants are a critical part of ensuring the city's ongoing vitality.

NICOLLE GOODMAN: Any kind of visit to a restaurant, be it indoors, if you're comfortable, or carry out, and then just, again, promoting that and supporting the local restaurants and the economy. Absolutely.

- The City of Saint Paul Housing and Redevelopment Authority partnered with Visit Saint Paul to launch Dine Saint Paul today. The campaign runs through spring.
