Campaign spending limited so far in Columbia school board race

There was little activity in campaign finance reports for Columbia Board of Education candidates 40 days before the April 2 election.

John Potter, Alvin Cobbins III and Jeanne Snodgrass are running for two open school board positions. The terms are for three years.

John Potter is the only candidate with any campaign finance activity in the Missouri Ethics Commission report and he leads the others in fundraising. He had $908.68 on hand at the end of the reporting period, contributions of $1,395.36 and spending of $486.68.

Potter listed three contributors making five contributions. John Beckstrom, who is listed as retired, made contributions of $100, $300 and $200 on different dates.

Carl Prestigiacomo, a professor, donated $242.28 to Potter's campaign.

Lara Wakefield, a student advocate who frequently speaks at school board meetings, chipped in $206.46.

Snodgrass, the incumbent, filed a committee statement of limited activity, certifying that neither contributions or spending exceeded $500. It was filed on Monday.

There was no online record of any filing by Cobbins, though he said in a Monday interview he planned to file something that day. They were due last Thursday.
