Campfires and cookouts: Six campgrounds accepting reservations in Holland this summer
HOLLAND — Holland is home to a plethora of hotels, but lovers of the great outdoors will be happy to learn the lakeshore also plays host to a series of campgrounds.
Whether you prefer cabins, tents or campers, the greater Holland area has options — and many of them are within walking distance of Holland State Park.
Here are six campgrounds to consider this summer:
Lake Macatawa Campground
Address: 2175 Ottawa Beach Road in Park Township
Sites: 211
Book: 800-447-2757
Holland State Park features two campgrounds: Lake Macatawa and Modern Beach. Lake Macatawa Campground has wooded and sunny campsites, with the majority of sites located on grass or gravel. Twelve sites are ADA-accessible.
Families can enjoy two play structures, a volleyball court and a horseshoe area, plus a small beach on Lake Macatawa across from the campground's entrance. That's not to mention the site's walkable distance to Holland State Park.
Modern Beach Campground
Address: 2175 Ottawa Beach Road in Park Township
Sites: 98
Book: 800-447-2757
Visitors will register at the same address as Lake Macatawa Campground, but Modern Beach Campground is a very different experience. Modern Beach Campground is located just over the dune from Lake Michigan at Holland State Park. The campground has just under 100 sites, all paved.

Firepits aren't provided, but campers can bring their own portable firepits. Some amenities are shared with Lake Macatawa Campground, but the major bonus of staying at Modern Beach is the short walk to the waterfront — plus easy access to Holland State Park's Beachplace Cafe.
