Camposeo to end 25-year tenure as Manchester town clerk

Jun. 8—MANCHESTER — Longtime Town Clerk Joseph V. Camposeo said Monday he is not running for re-election this year.

Camposeo, a Democrat, has served as Manchester's town clerk for 25 years since 1996. Prior to that he also had stints on the Board of Directors and Board of Education.

"I've had the honor and pleasure to work on behalf of the people of Manchester for more than 40 years. I'm pleased that I've had the opportunity in this time to contribute to the growth and progress of our community," Camposeo said Monday in a news release announcing his decision.

Democratic Town Chairman Michael Pohl praised Camposeo's work over the past several decades. Among other things, Camposeo and his staff have been credited with modernizing the town clerk's office and increasing accessibility to records in town by digitizing them.

"We thank him deeply for his years of service to the people of Manchester and wish him well in the next chapter of his life," Pohl said.

Pohl said that any registered Democrat interested in running for town clerk should reach out to him at 860-983-4804 or by email at mikepohl1000@gmail.com. The post is a four-year term.

"Manchester's Democratic Party will work to identify a candidate who will be able to build on the outstanding customer service our clerk's office has provided under Joe Camposeo's leadership," Pohl said Monday. "In the next few weeks, our Nominating Committee will be scheduling interviews with potential candidates and recommending a candidate for the November ballot to our full Democratic Town Committee."

While Camposeo is well known in town, he has also been honored at the state level for his work.

The Connecticut Town Clerks Association named him Town Clerk of the Year in 2010. He's also held posts as president and vice president of that organization and vice president of the National Association of Recorders from 2012 to 2015.

Manchester became the first community in the state to fully digitize all of its land records and maps under Camposeo, which allows residents to search a plethora of records dating back to 1823.

Real estate filings also became easier during Camposeo's tenure, and about 30% of such transactions are handled electronically right now.

Camposeo was born and raised in town and has called Manchester home for his adult life. He served in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard.
