Campus notes, Nov. 5, 2023

Nov. 5—Glory Gillen, Robeson Township, was part of the Army ROTC Furman Paladin Battalion team that placed second out of 38 teams in the Ranger Challenge at Virginia Military Institute.

Gillen is a criminal justice major at Bob Jones University, Greenville, S.C. Her team included students from Bob Jones University, Furman University and North Greenville University. The competition featured 10 stations including marksmanship, weapons assembly and a Humvee push.

"The past eight weeks of preparation for the 2023 Ranger Challenge was truly an inspiring and humbling experience," Glory Gillen said in a statement released by her university. "All the cadets involved gained an enormous amount of experience, through hands-on training, field practice and classroom lessons."

The team will travel to Sandhurst, N.Y., in the spring for a competition hosted by the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

KU promotion

Tammy Starner Wert, Womelsdorf, has been named assistant to the provost for general education at Kutztown University. She previously served as executive assistant to the vice president of university relations and athletics. She has been with the university since 2007.
