Canada Goose to go fur-free
After years of facing backlash from animal rights groups, Canada Goose will go fur-free. The luxury parka maker said Thursday it would stop making its products with fur by the end of 2022.
The company known for its $1,000 parkas – with hoods that are lined with fur trim--said it will also stop buying fur by the end of this year.
The move is a partial win for animal welfare groups like PETA. The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals has called the company a symbol that – in its words - “represents anything but warmth.”
Canada Goose joins peers like Michael Kors, Versace and Gucci in going fur-free as it looks to become more environmentally conscious.
The company’s website, however, says it still uses natural down, which PETA has criticized.
Wall Street greeted the decision warmly, sending Canada Goose shares up more than 3% in early trading Thursday.
