STORY: Blazes are burning in nearly all Canadian provinces and territories, and federal government officials said their modeling shows increased wildfire risk in most of Canada through August.
"This is a scary time for a lot of people," said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who pledged government support to keep people safe.
Canadian Public Safety Minister Bill Blair told reporters, "Across the country, there are currently 413 wildfires burning and 249 of those fires are deemed out of control. There are also 18 active wildfires specifically impacting first nations with six in Alberta, five in Saskatchewan, one in the Northwest Territories, four in Quebec, and two in Nova Scotia. And, as of yesterday, an estimated 26,000 people remain evacuated from their homes across the country."
