Delaware is set to become the next home for Canada's favorite fast food chain.

Tim Hortons, a Canadian coffee and fast-food giant, has signed a multi-unit development agreement to open locations in New Castle and Kent Counties, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Specific locations and construction timelines have yet to be confirmed by the franchise, but the earliest could open in late 2024.

Tim Hortons is Canada's top selling fast food chain, with over 3,500 stores in the country. It was established by and named after Tim Horton, the Canadian professional hockey player and is currently owned by Restaurant Brands International, which also oversees Burger King, Popeyes and Firehouse Subs.

Ryan Ferranti, head of business development for Tim Hortons' U.S. operations, told the Philadelphia Business Journal that the brand has been eyeing expansion in the Greater Philadelphia region in recent years. This summer it opened a storefront and drive-thru in Cinnaminson, marking the second South Jersey location in two years.

The brand has recently undergone menu changes as it continues to expand. It's best known for its coffees and breakfast foods like donuts and sandwiches as well as lunch and dinner options. Recently, the menu has been re-adjusted to be more beverage-driven, with more coffee options as well as other smoothies and juices.

"I think we're being intentionally diligent and methodical about the right time to come back to the market and having this new image, sort of an updated and streamlined menu. We're excited to grow," Ferranti said to the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Of its 3,000-plus stores in North America, a little over 640 are in the United States and are mostly situated in New York, Michigan and Ohio. The Dover Air Force Base previously had its own Tim Hortons location with limited access to entry, but this location has since closed.

Representatives for Tim Hortons and Restaurant Brands International did not respond to a request for comment.
