Guadalajara (Mexico) (AFP) - A 78-year-old Canadian man was found dead in a western Mexico lake and two of his elderly countrymen remain missing after they disappeared during a boat trip, officials said.

A civil protection official in Chapala, a resort town popular with US and Canadian retirees in Jalisco state, said the three men had left in a sailboat on Monday.

A woman called the authorities to report them missing the next day and their empty vessel was found on Lake Chapala on Tuesday afternoon, said the official, who requested anonymity.

"A half hour later we found a man's body floating," the official said.

Authorities are still searching for the two other men, who are in their 70s, officials said.
