Canadian motorcyclist identified as victim in fatal crash on Interstate 29, charges pending

A motorcyclist from Canada has been identified as the man who died in a wreck north of Watertown on May 12.

Andrzej Walczak, 68, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, was riding a 2015 Honda 750 Aero motorcycle southbound on Interstate 29, according to a news release form the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

The motorcycle was rear-ended by a southbound 2010 Chevy Malibu driven by Vivica Barse, 19, of Peever, according to the release. Walczak, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene, per the release. Barse was not injured.The wreck was near mile marker 191 about 11 miles north of Watertown at 10:09 a.m.

Charges are pending, according to the release. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
