The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is returning to more than two-dozen Minnesota towns, including its 20th anniversary in Cottage Grove, to spread Christmas cheer and raise donations for local food banks.

The Holiday Train, about 1,000 feet long with 14 festively decorated rail cars, will be rolling through the Twin Cities Dec. 11-13 with free musical performances by Alan Doyle and Kelly Prescott.

In Cottage Grove, the train will stop at 5 p.m. Dec. 12 at West Point Douglas Road, South of Seiben Bridge and in front of the Youth Service Bureau. Additional festivities, starting at 3:30 p.m., include free hot cocoa and coffee, visits with Santa and food trucks. There will also be a merchandise sale with a percentage of the proceeds going toward the Friends in Need Food Shelf.

The Holiday Train event makes up 25% of the food shelf’s donations and raised $146,074 last year, according to the city of Cottage Grove.
