Cancer Research Institute: Women in white leading the fight
Every cancer has its warrior color.
Pink for breast. Blue for prostate. Gray for brain. Green for liver.
Why, then, would a luncheon hostess ask guests to wear white?
Because white is the color of every cancer ribbon combined.

The "Wear White for Cancer" luncheon, a ''fund/friendraiser'' for the Cancer Research Institute, took place April 6 at the landmarked home of Betsy Shiverick.
Shiverick and Carolyn Grace were chairwomen for the al fresco event, which began with a reception in the garden — partially shaded, thankfully — then moved to the courtyard for a light lunch and remarks from cancer survivor Sharon Belvin, whose highly aggressive form of melanoma was stopped in its tracks by immunotherapy.
A Q-and-A between Arthur Brodsky, CRI's senior science writer, and cancer researcher Dr. Andrea Schietinger closed the event.
More than 50 women attended, including Louisa Attenborough, Mary Randolph Ballinger, Lisa Bertles, Perri Bishop, Kim Coleman, Gail Coniglio, Jackie Drake, Jennifer Fischer, Kristen Fisher, Caroline Fitzgibbons, Cindy Galvin, Kate Gubelmann, Shelley Gubelmann, Jessica Guff, Victoria Hagan, Joan Henle, Kate Horgan, Page Lee Hufty, Mary Louise Kiernan, Heidi Kluger, Anne Langenfeld, Bobbie Lindsay, Susan Malloy, Beth Martignetti, Mimi McMakin, Audrey McNiff, Heidi McWilliams, Susan Meyer, Muffy Miller, Pam Patsley, Missy Savage, Ann Summers, Roxann Taylor, Electra Toub, Katie Vecellio, Casey Waldin, Nichole Watson, Lynn Wheat, Pam Williams and Maggie Zeidman.
All went home with a white pashmina as a table gift.
Proceeds benefit the Cancer Research Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing immunotherapy to treat, control, and cure all cancers.
