Cancer walk eases pain for Rocky Mountain High School families

Kathleen Sullivan was heartbroken over what five Rocky Mountain High School students, including her daughter, faced battling cancer their senior year.

Her daughter, Sheri Hone (now Stull), Carter Edgerley, Marcus Lasco and Liv Fondy all graduated despite enduring chemotherapy treatments during the school year. Classmate Kate Prewett passed away from her cancer the first day of the 2018-19 school year.

To help ease the pain, Sullivan started the Northern Colorado CureSearch Walk to fund childhood cancer research in 2020. This year's event takes place 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at Mehaffey Park, 3285 W. 22nd St., in Loveland.

"It broke my heart to see how often and impactful childhood cancer is within our community,'' Sullivan said.

The walk generates money through registrations and donations. Sullivan said the first year's event drew about 60 walkers and raised $500. Last year drew 150 participants and raised $5,700. This year she is hoping for 300 walkers and raising $10,000.
