Candidate filing for 2024 election underway in Raleigh County

Jan. 8—The filing period for West Virginia's 2024 election began Monday.

Several in Raleigh County have already filed for a number of county offices on the ballot for the primary election on May 14.

Raleigh County Commissioner Linda K. Epling, a Republican, filed Monday to retain her seat as commissioner for Magisterial District 2.

Republican Linda Sumner filed to run for reelection as Raleigh County assessor.

Four candidates filed to run for six of the Raleigh County magistrate judge positions: Gary Vaughan, Division 1; Paul Blume, Division 2; Greg Tanner, Division 4; and Tomi Peck, Division 5.

Blume, Tanner and Peck are serving as Raleigh County magistrates.

Newcomer Vaughan is a bail bondsman and private investigator.

Judicial races are nonpartisan.

Also on the ballot in Raleigh County are prosecuting attorney, two spots on the board of education, surveyor and conservation district supervisor.

Candidates had yet to file for these positions as of 4 p.m. Monday.

Filing in West Virginia will continue until Jan. 27.
