Candidate for Sacramento City Council drops out citing health issues
Tamika L’Ecluse is dropping out of the race for Sacramento City Council’s 2nd District seat.
L’Ecluse, who filed papers in March to raise funds to run, said she is withdrawing from the race for medical reasons.
“It was not a decision I made lightly,” L’Ecluse, a former teacher and Councilwoman Katie Valenzuela staffer, wrote on her Facebook page Monday. “With the timing of recent health changes, and looking ahead to the next three to six months, it would be irresponsible to continue.”
Former Twin Rivers Unified School Board member Ramona Landeros is running for the seat, she announced last week. Former state legislator Roger Dickinson is also considering a run, he has told The Sacramento Bee.
It’s unclear whether Councilman Sean Loloee, who holds the seat now, will run for re-election. He did not immediately respond to a request seeking comment. He has filed paperwork with the city to raise money to run, but that does not necessarily mean he will do so.
L’Ecluse plans to run for re-election to the American River Flood Control Board next year, she wrote.
The primary election will be held March 5. If no single candidate receives at least 50.01% of the vote, the general election for the District 2 seat will be held Nov. 5.
