Candidate watch: Who is filing in Eastern North Carolina for the 2022 election
A whiplash decision came from the North Carolina Court of Appeals late Monday night by a three-judge panel who denied a lawsuit brought on by the North Carolina League of Conservation Voters.
The court originally ordered a pause in filing for North Carolina's congressional and state legislative seats 20 minutes before the start of the 2022 election filing period due to the suit claiming the state's new redistricting maps were unconstitutional.
With the denial of the suit, potential candidates were free to file beginning Tuesday morning and have done so throughout Eastern North Carolina.
Along with filing for next year's local county and municipal elections, here is the current list of candidates who have filed as of 5 p.m. Tuesday.
