Candidates file to run for seats on Naperville Park Board and district 203 and 204 school boards

Candidates started filing nominating petitions this week to run for four-year terms on the Naperville Park Board and the Naperville District 203 and Indian Prairie District 204 school boards.

With the filing deadline set for Monday, Dec. 19, only one candidate had submitted the paperwork needed to run for park board in the April 4 election as of Tuesday.

Christopher Jacks, a member of the Naperville Historical Preservation Commission since 2017, turned in his paperwork Monday and will be at the top of the ballot.

There are three board seats open, currently held by Commissioners Rich Janor, Josh McBroom and Marie Todd.

McBroom is not seeking reelection because he’s a candidate for the Naperville City Council. It’s not known yet if Janor, a former board president, or Todd, who currently serves as board president, will be seeking new terms.

In District 203, the seats held by Tony Casey, Kristine Gericke and Joseph Kozminski are up for election.

Gericke, Kozminski and newcomer Barbara Higgs, who is retired from CBS television, filed their paperwork simultaneously when the when the DuPage County Clerk’s Office opened at 8 a.m. Monday.

Gericke was first elected to the D203 board in 2017 and Kozminski in 2019.

In District 204, incumbents Justin Karubas and Mark Rising and challenger Catey Genc, president of the Indian Prairie Parents’ Council, filed to be on the ballot at 8 a.m. Monday.

Natasha Grover, the third board incumbent whose seat is up for election, had not filed as of Tuesday.

Karubas has been on the D204 board since 2013 and Rising since 2011.
