Here are all the candidates in state and Coast races in the Mississippi primary election
Voters in all three Coast counties will be choosing a sheriff, supervisors and state representatives in the Aug. 8 primary election that has a long list of contested races.
Most of the contested races are on the Republican ballot, so the winner could be determined that night or in the Aug. 29 primary run-off.
Several new polling places were designated this year. To find out where to vote, use the polling place locator or call the circuit clerk’s office:

These are the contested races by county:
Harrison County
Sheriff: Sheriff Troy Peterson is retiring, and two long-time deputies are running for the job:
▪Louis Elias — Started in law enforcement in 1994, joined the Sheriff’s Department in 2008 and has the rank of major.
▪Matt Haley — Has worked at the Sheriff’s Department for 26 years and is a captain.

Supervisor: Four of the five races for Harrison County supervisor have challengers this year. On the Republican ticket, two of the current supervisors are running while longtime supervisor Connie Rockco is retiring.
On the Democrat ballot, Supervisor Kent Jones, has two challengers.
Supervisor District 1
▪Beverly Martin — Incumbent, was elected in 2016 after working for many years as the director of the state Casino Operators Association and as a tourism director.
▪Dan Cuevas — a 23-year employee with BellSouth, now AT&T, he owns a heating and air conditioning business
Supervisor District 2
▪Rebecca Powers, incumbent, was elected in 2019. She was a news anchor on WLOX-TV
▪John Hoggatt — is a representative at WoodmenLife insurance company
Supervisor District 5 — Three candidates are vying for the seat Rockco is vacating:
▪Nathan Barrett — a businessman and a two-term Biloxi councilman representing the Woolmarket area.
▪Alan Chouest — a retired chaplain and Air Force veteran who served for 30 years. He is an aerospace science instructor for Jackson County School District.
▪Howard Walkinshaw — served as a Gulfport Police officer for seven years and now owns his own company.
Harrison County Democrat races:
Supervisor District 4
▪Kent Jones — the incumbent is running for a third term. He has experience in law enforcement and business.
▪Chris Fisher — is self-employed and involved in several community organizations.
▪John Johnson — served on Harrison County school board for 30 years and was appointed in 2015 to serve the unexpired term of supervisor William Martin.
Justice Court Judge District 4 is the only other Democrat contested race in Harrison County. Candidates are:

▪Ricky Adam — The Incumbent has three challengers for sheriff.
▪Nathan ‘Corky’ Hoda — 30 years of experience in law enforcement, most of it at the Sheriff’s Department, including lead narcotics and vice investigator.
▪Johnny Raffeo Jr. — owner of a truck and towing service.
▪Channing Reynolds — worked for seven years at Sheriff’s Department as patrol deputy and narcotics officer. Owner of a small trucking business.

Chancery Clerk
Chancery Clerk Tim Kellar is retiring after 28 years. Candidates are:
▪Jordan Bradford — is fiscal officer at the Gulf Regional Planning Commission, with a degree in accounting.
▪J.C. Brignone — owner of a financial brokerage firm.
▪Tiffany Lee Cowman —has 15 years in local education and business and is a teacher in the Bay-Waveland School District.
▪Kodie Koenenn — served on Diamondhead City Council and is current county supervisor.

Supervisor
Four of the five supervisor races are contested, including District 3, where Supervisor Koenenn is giving up his seat to run for chancery clerk.
Supervisor District 1
▪Theresa Ryan — Incumbent, served as information technology manager at Stennis Space Center and owns an IT company.
▪Christopher “Packer” Ladner —Served on the Hancock County Planning and Zoning Commission for eight years and as the Hancock County School Board member for three years.
▪Donald Wayne Graham — has 38 years in the residential and commercial construction industry and is a volunteer for youth sports for 32 years.
Supervisor District 2
▪Greg Shaw — Incumbent.
▪Byron Ladner — works in sales at Delta Industries concrete company, where he has worked for 21 years.
▪Chris Smith — Engineer and land surveyor.
Supervisor District 3
▪Charles ‘Chuck’ Clark — Diamondhead councilman and manager of Rouses Supermarket in Diamondhead.
▪Shea Michael Ladner — Engineer and IT project manager at NASA Stennis.
Supervisor District 4
▪Scotty Adam — Incumbent.
▪Louis Jimmy Necaise Jr. — Owns a small electrical contracting business.
Constable — All three constable races are contested on the Republican ticket:

▪Robbie O’Bryant — has 20 years of law enforcement experience at the Sheriff’s Department and now as a Moss Point police officer.

This is the only local race in the Democratic primary in Jackson County:

▪Mitch Ellerby — A veteran who retired from Chevron and who served eight years in the Mississippi House.
