Candlelight Vigil Held in New York City for China Fire Victims

A vigil was held in New York City on Tuesday, November 29, after 10 people were killed in a fire at a high-rise residential building in Urumqi, China, the previous week.

The deaths sparked multiple protests across China against the country’s strict COVID-19 restrictions after it was reported the building had been under lockdown for weeks. Urumqi officials denied that the restrictions contributed to the deaths.

Other vigils and protests were reported in cities including Dublin, Los Angeles, London, Paris, and Sydney.
