Candy Boo-nanza: Your guide to Oklahoma City area trick-or-treating

The first chilly days have arrived and with them comes the time of year for kids to don wings and wigs, masks and makeup for the frightfully good tradition of Halloween trick-or-treating.

Find official dates and times for towns across the metro area, plus a roundup of free trick-or-treating events to help parents plan all their kids candy adventures in advance.

What days and times are metro area cities doing trick-or-treating?

Halloween is officially on Oct. 31, and while some cities across the country have started observing the day on the Saturday before, this year, most Oklahoma City-area cities and towns are sticking to Oct. 31. Below is the guidance provided by cities and towns in the area.

  • Oklahoma City: 6 to 9 p.m.

  • Norman: 5 to 8 p.m.

  • Moore: No official times listed.

  • Mustang: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

  • Yukon: 6 to 8 p.m.

  • Edmond: No official times listed.

  • Nichols Hills: 6 to 8 p.m.

  • Bethany: 6 to 8 p.m.

  • Midwest City: 6 to 8:30 p.m.

  • Del City: Sundown (6:30 p.m.) to 9:30 p.m.

  • Choctaw: 6 to 10 p.m.

  • Harrah: 6 to 10 p.m.

  • Guthrie (Downtown Trick-or-Treat): 4 to 6 p.m.

  • Chickasha: 5 to 7 p.m.

  • Seminole: 6 to 9 p.m.

  • Shawnee: 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Homes participating jn trick-or-treating will usually have decorations and a porch light turned on to signal that candy or other goodies are available.

What other free trick-or-treating events are there in the Oklahoma City area?

In addition to neighborhood goodies, many cities, towns and organizations are hosting free events open to the public to offer additional chances to get into the Halloween spirit.

Wednesday

Mall-O-Ween at Penn Square Mall: 5 to 7 p.m., 1901 Northwest Expressway. An evening of family-friendly fun featuring indoor trick-or-treating, photo opportunities, balloon twisters, face painting and fun fall festivities. Organizers ask that costumes be worn only during event hours. Masks are allowed only on children 12 years old and younger, and no toy weapons are permitted. A list of participating stores for trick-or-treating will be added to the mall website before the event.

Thursday

'Hallow Alley' Edmond Drive-thru Trick-or-Treat: 5 to 7 p.m., Downtown Edmond. Costumes are encouraged for this drive-thru trick-or-treat. You will enter from Edwards Street and drive through the alley between the Patriarch and the Edmond Fine Arts Institute, exiting at VIP Insurance. The line will form to the east, toward Boulevard Street.

Friday

Southern Oaks Recreation Center Halloween Carnival: 4 to 8 p.m., 6818 S Walker Ave. The event will feature glow-in-the-dark activities, games, face painting, food, crafts and more. Costumes are welcome.

Harvest Night at Pitts Recreation Center: 6 to 8 p.m., 1920 N Kate Ave. The recreation center will host a safe, fun alternative to trick-or-treating. The event will include games, arts & crafts, food for all and candy for the kids.

Haunting Downtown Halloween Spooktacular: 6 to 10:30 p.m., Downtown Edmond. The event will include pop-up shops, trick-or-treating, a live DJ and a costume contest.

Saturday

El Reno Spooktacular: 11 a.m. to Noon, 119 S Rock Island Ave. in El Reno. The entire family is encouraged to dress up for this event presented by the Rock District in downtown El Reno. Event will include treats, games and fun for the whole family.

Halloween at the Museum: 1 to 4 p.m., 431 S Boulevard in Edmond. The Edmond History Museum will host an event for the public with games, crafts, candy and other activities.

Haunt Old-Town Moore: 4 to 7 p.m., Broadway Avenue in Moore. The city of Moore will host an event complete with family fun activities, food trucks, inflatables, games, music & candy. The Moore Community Center, 301 S Howard Ave., will also have trick-or-treating and a haunted room.

History Never Dies Halloween Carnival at the Oklahoma Territorial Museum: 5 to 7 p.m., 406 E Oklahoma Ave. in Guthrie. All ages are welcome at this event featuring carnival games, prizes, food, candy and Halloween-themed activities both inside and outside of the museum. The theme is Hocus Pocus and costumes are encouraged.

Edmond Parks Trunk-or-Treat at Mitch Park: 5 to 8 p.m., 2733 Marilyn Williams Drive in Edmond. Even will featured decorated vehicles and candy for kids in a safe & fun environment. Costumes are encouraged.

Mustang Spooktacular Celebration: 5:30 to 8 p.m., 1201 N Mustang Road in Mustang. The Mustang Parks and Recreation Department hosts this annual festival in Town Center.  Event includes carnival games, food trucks, candy, inflatables, life-size Monopoly and more.

Monday

Trick-or-Treat at Village on the Park: 2 to 4 p.m., 1515 Kingsridge Drive. Village on the Park, a south Oklahoma City retirement community, will host a Halloween event open to the public. There will be complimentary snacks, goodies, games and fun for all ages.

Haunt the Hill on Calle Dos Cinco: 5 to 7 p.m., SW 25 from Hudson to Robinson. The Calle Dos Cinco neighborhood hosts an evening of family fun with music, costume contests, games, activities and lots of candy. Costumes are encouraged.
