CHILLICOTHE — The candy is sweet, the soda is flavorful and, according to judges, the store is clean at Grandpa Joe's Candy Shop in downtown Chillicothe. The store was recently awarded the Golden Broom from Downtown Chillicothe for its efforts.

The Golden Broom is awarded to a business in Chillicothe each quarter for cleanliness and an overall inviting curb appeal that brings customers in. Each quarter anonymous judges look at different sections of the downtown to make sure all businesses get a fair chance throughout the year.

This is the eighth store that has been given this award through Downtown Chillicothe. The judges commended Grandpa Joe's on its changing window attractions that catch the attention of people of all ages.

Store Manager Emily Lovett said the staff are "very honored" to be given this award. She said she is proud to be a part of the downtown area and is glad the store could help add to the beauty of the street.

The window displays are changed regularly and often feature lights and moving parts to catch people's attention. These designs are created by staff who want to add fun and whimsy to the area.

The shop will house the Golden Broom Award for the next quarter until it is moved to the next winner. Past winners are given a window card to keep to display their achievements.

Grandpa Joe's Candy Shop is located at 82 North Paint Street in Chillicothe.
