Canine Connie sniffs out ‘career drug offender’ with $500K in drugs: Sheriff

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A “career drug offender” was arrested with half a million dollars in drugs following a traffic stop this week, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said on Friday.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on New Jersey resident Hector Iglesias, 43, on Wednesday along I-77 near mile marker 62. Deputies said Iglesias was inconsistent when telling them of his travel plans from his Jersey home to Knoxville, Tennessee, and also detected indicators of criminal activity.

A canine was called in and cocaine, THC, and marijuana with a street value totaling half-a-million dollars were found in his vehicle in the trunk. Iglesias was arrested and faces multiple charges including trafficking.

He is being held on a $950,000 bond. Iglesias was previously convicted on drug charges in West Palm Beach and served six years in prison, the sheriff’s office said.
