Canned goods being collected at Taunton Christmas parade Dec. 5

TAUNTON — This year, you can Can-It for Christmas.

No, not like that, but by donating canned goods!

With the return of the Taunton Christmas parade, after a one-year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic, the canned goods collection along the parade route is also returning.

Taunton-area residents are being asked to bring canned goods when they come to see the city's annual Christmas parade on Sunday, Dec. 5.

At the beginning of the parade, volunteers will collect the food along the parade route. All collected food is brought to the Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen at St. Thomas Church, where it is sorted and distributed.

Going back to the 1991 parade, more than 160,000 food items have been collected and donated to Our Daily Bread and other food pantries.

The parade kicks off at noon, beginning at Broadway and East Britannia Street, and heads south to Taunton Green, then turns onto Main Street and ends at City Hall.
