Cannon group commander relieved of command

May 20—A group commander at Cannon Air Force Base was relieved of command Tuesday.

Colonel Michael Shreves was relieved from command of the 27th Special Operations Group "due to a loss of confidence in his ability to effectively lead the members of his command," according to a news release from Cannon's Public Affairs office.

"The decision to remove Col. Shreves was not based on any character issue or indiscretion," 27th Special Operations Wing Commander Colonel Terence Taylor said.

"The 27th Special Operations Wing holds its leaders to the highest standard, and each of them bears a great responsibility to maintain good order and discipline within their formation," Taylor added according to the release.

Senior Director of the 27th Special Operations Wing Commander Action Group, Lt. Col. Charles Hodges, has been named the interim 27th Special Operations Group commander.

Cannon Public Affairs had no further information regarding exactly why Shreves was relieved of command. They also declined to provide a phone number where Shreves could be reached for comment.
