Summer is coming and these Columbus-area pools will be opening soon

With the school year winding down, kids aren't the only ones looking ahead to summer.

Columbus and a number of suburbs have announced their outdoor public pool opening dates and seasonal hours online, with some starting as soon as Memorial Day weekend.

Columbus

Dodge, Driving Park and Tuttle pools will open for Memorial Day weekend in Columbus at the following times:

  • May 27: noon-6 p.m.

  • May 28: noon-5 p.m.

  • May 29: noon-5 p.m.

All eight Columbus Recreation and Parks District pools (Dodge, Driving Park, Glenwood, Lincoln, Marion Franklin, Maryland, Tuttle and Windsor) will open for standard hours on June 10. Standard hours are as follows:

  • Mondays-Thursdays: 1-7:45 p.m.

  • Fridays: 1-7:15 p.m.

  • Saturdays and Sundays: Noon-5 p.m.

Dodge, Driving Park and Tuttle pools shut down for the season on Sept. 3. The other five pools close earlier on Aug. 20.

The district is still hiring lifeguards. Lifeguards are paid $20 per hour and can receive an end-of-season bonus.

Suburbs

  • The Big Splash Family Aquatics Center (Grove City) will be open from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. from May 27-July 31 and from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. from Aug. 1 through Labor Day, except on days when the South-Western City School District is in session.

  • Canal Winchester Municipal Pool opens May 26 and closes Sept. 3. The pool will be open from noon-8 p.m. on Mondays-Saturdays and from noon-4 p.m. on Sundays. The pool will be available exclusively to members from May 26-June 1.

  • David H. Madison Community Pool (Bexley) will open on May 27 and close after Labor Day. Hours on Monday-Friday are 11:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m., and hours on the weekends are 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

  • Devon Pool, Reed Road Water Park and Tremont Pool (Upper Arlington) open May 27. Devon Pool and Reed Road Water Park close Aug. 13, while Tremont Pool will remain open through Labor Day. Pool hours, which vary by facility and day of the week, are listed on the City of Upper Arlington's website.

  • Dublin Outdoor Community pools North and South open May 27 and close after Labor Day. The pool hours for May 27-Aug. 15 are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Hours for the last few weeks of the season can be found on the City of Dublin's website.

  • Gahanna Swimming Pool and Hunters Ridge Pool will open for Memorial Day weekend. Their daily hours are noon-8 p.m. Gahanna Swimming Pool will close for the season on Aug. 17, while Hunters Ridge Pool will stay open from noon-7 p.m. for weekends through Labor Day.

  • Grandview Heights Municipal Pool will be open on May 27 from 1-9 p.m. before kicking off its regular season hours (11 a.m.-9 p.m.) on May 28. The regular season will run through July 31. Late summer hours are available online.

  • The Highlands Park Aquatic Center (Westerville) regular season begins May 27 and runs through Aug. 14. During that timeframe, the pool will be open from noon-7 p.m. on Mondays-Thursdays and from noon-6:30 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Hours for the late season, which start Aug. 15 and end after Labor Day, are still to be determined.

  • The Hilliard Family Aquatic Center and the Clyde "Butch" Seidle Community Pool open May 27. Both will be open noon-8 p.m. on Mondays-Saturdays and noon-7 p.m. on Sundays until Aug. 21, at which point the Hilliard Family Aquatic Center will close and the Clyde "Butch" Seidle Community Pool will adjust its hours until closing after Labor Day.

  • Plain Township Aquatic Center (New Albany) opens May 27 and will remain open through Labor Day. From May 30-June 1, the pool will be open from 4-8 p.m. Afterward, weekdays hours will be 11 a.m.-8 p.m., while Saturday hours will be noon-7 p.m. and Sunday hours will be noon-8 p.m. The pool will be closed on school days from Aug. 16-Sept. 1.

  • Powell Pool will be open May 26-Sept. 5. The pool will be open from 11:30 a.m-8:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 11 a.m.-8:30 p.m. on weekends until Aug. 18. Starting Aug. 18, the pool will be open from 4:30-7 p.m. on Mondays-Thursdays; 4:30-8 p.m. on Fridays; and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on weekends and Labor Day.

  • Worthington Pools summer season starts Memorial Day weekend, opening May 26 for members and May 27 for the general public. It finishes after Labor Day weekend. Daily public pool hours begin at noon and end at 9 p.m.
