This Memorial Day weekend, you can do a paddle, a Potawatomi hike and an outdoor pancake feast. And you’ve got another shot at signing up for the popular glacier bus tour out of Rum Village Park. Here’s what you'll find in this week’s Outdoor Adventures column.

Paddling rentals

Kayak and canoe rentals have begun at Ferrettie-Baugo Creek County Park in Osceola. Boats can be checked out between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Cost is $20 per kayak, $25 per canoe; it’s $5 extra on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Group rental reservations are available weekdays. St. Joe River trips in South Bend aren’t offered due to staff shortages.

Potawatomi hike

Hoosier Hikers will host 5K and 10K hikes that you can start anytime between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. May 28 near the nature center at Potawatomi Wildlife Park near Bourbon. The park is at 16998 Indiana 331, a half mile south of Indiana 10. For questions, contact Bob Buzolich at 574-339-9140 or sonofbuzz@prodigy.net.

Pancakes in the sanctuary

The South Bend-Elkhart Audubon Society will serve pancakes from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Memorial Day at its wildlife sanctuary, 59395 Clover Road, Mishawaka, south of George Wilson Park. Bring your own eating utensils if you can. Donations accepted.

More glacier tours

Since it was popular, naturalist Garry Harrington will do two more of his bus tours of St. Joseph County’s glacial history on June 26: from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m., departing from South Bend’s Rum Village Nature Center. Cost is $15. Registration and payment (cash or check only) will only be taken in person by June 6 at the nature center, 2626 S. Gertrude St.
