Another day, another morsel of superhero news. (Feels like you just shook off your No Way Home hangover, yeah?) This time, it's from Batgirl, an upcoming HBO Max movie about exactly what you think it's about. In the Heights's Leslie Grace will play Batgirl/Barbara Gordon in the DCEU adventure, and we just got out first looks of the hero in the cowl. The first, below, is courtesy of Grace herself, and the second is a set photo.

Now before you just scroll down and look, let's talk about it! If you ask us, Grace's costume rivals Battinson's digs. It calls to mind both Batgirl's comic-book outfit and Julie Newmar's look from the 1960s Batman TV series, with the banana-yellow underside to the cape.

Okay, now look.

Now, you want to actually know what Batgirl is about? Given that everything superhero is shrouded in secrecy nowadays, plot details are scarce. But you know what that means, right? Time to speculate. Here's everything we know so far about Batgirl.

When Will Batgirl Be Released?

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Batgirl will hit HBO Max sometime in 2022. Given that we just saw the first photos of the costume, we can safely guess the release date will likely land during the final couple of months of the year.

What Will Batgirl Be About?

Thanks to the same DC FanDome event that gave us our first look at precisely how much fun Colin Farrell will be having in The Batman, as well as a couple of tidbits we've picked up along the way, we have a basic idea of the shape the Batgirl plot will take. It'll be an origin story following Barbara Gordon, son of Commissioner Jim Gordon, as she picks up the cowl. Apparently the commish will be played by J.K. Simmons, who previously starred as the character in Zack Snyder's DC films. Confusing! We know.

As for the villain of this story? Friends and fans of The Mummy, rejoice: Brendan Fraser will play the antagonist in Batgirl. Deadline first reported the news that Fraser, whose character has not yet been named, will join Grace and Keaton. Frankly, we couldn't be happier to see Fraser, a genuinely great human, continue his much-welcomed reentry into Hollywood.

Back to the heroes. When Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were asked if Batman himself would show up, they said, "the real one" will appear in Batgirl. Now, we know who they consider the real Caped Crusader: Michael Keaton, one of our favorite Batmen to wear the cowl. With Simmons involved in the project, we thought that Batgirl would maintain at least some consistency and loop Ben Affleck's Batman into the mix. Looks like Batfleck is a no-go, in that case.

We'll have to wait for more details on the film, which will exclusively debut on HBO Max. In the meantime, check out what Grace has to say about her Batgirl training montage so far: "Lots and lots of training! I'm currently fight-training every day with my amazing 'martial arts mom,' Ming Qiu, who cracks the whip! I've never fought in my life, so we are working really hard every day to get my body used to all the motions! I'm also reading a ton of comics and, believe it or not, keeping my eye out for tweets from our beloved DC comic fans to see what they are excited to see in my iteration of Babs! Research is everything."
