Can't wait for Halloween? Two Rockford area communities set trick or treat two days early

Village officials in Roscoe, Illinois, have decided once again to hold the community's trick-or-treating hours on Saturday, the weekend before Halloween, and the city of Rochelle is joining them.

According to the Village of Roscoe website, trick-or-treating in Roscoe will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 29 this year. Rochelle's city website lists trick or treat hours as 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 29. Most neighboring communities have set trick or treat hours for Halloween, Oct. 31, which falls on a Monday this year.

"This move has been made in the interest of our children's safety, to eliminate the stress of rushing home from school and work for trick-or-treating and to avoid the conflict of end of workday traffic and congestion," the Roscoe website states.

Not everyone is happy with Saturday trick-or-treating in Roscoe.

The Rockton-Roscoe News reported last year that neighborhoods in and around Roscoe experienced traffic congestion and families ran out of candy to hand out because of an influx of visitors from nearby communities.

The Village of Forreston in Ogle County held trick-or-treating on Saturday last year. According to the village's website, this year's event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31.
