The Monroe High School Drama Club will stage its spring play, “You Can’t Take It With You,” this weekend.

Performances will begin at 7 p.m. today and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Monroe High School Auditorium. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10 for adults, $5 for students and $8 for senior citizens. Doors will open one hour before curtain.

The award-winning comedy was written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman. It premiered in 1936 and won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The film adaptation won two Oscars in 1938 including Best Picture.

“You Can’t Take It With You” features Alice Sycamore, who works as a bank secretary is reluctant to marry her boss, Tony Kirby, because she knows their families are very different. She agrees to host a dinner party and asks her extended family, the unconventional Vanderhof-Sycamore clan, to be on their best behavior to meet her potential in-laws.

Chaos ensues when the straight-laced, prim and proper, well-to-do Kirbys arrive an evening earlier than planned.

The spring play is under the direction of Jeremy Kimberlin. Rebecca Molenda is in charge of production design. Both are faculty in the Language Arts Department.

“The light-hearted show is filled with fun and antics but delivers a timeless and inspiring message: Life is short and best spent doing the things we love with the people we love,” MHS said.
