Cantaloupe recalled for potential salmonella; powdered cheese recalled for undeclared sesame seeds

Cantaloupes distributed in more than a dozen states, including Michigan, are being recalled because of potential salmonella contamination.

Eagle Produce of Scottsdale, Arizona, is voluntarily recalling more than 6,400 cases of the Kandy brand of whole cantaloupe after a test conducted on cantaloupe in a distribution center by the  U.S. Food and Drug Administration.  The cantaloupes were distributed between Sept. 15-16 and sold in various retail supermarkets, the FDA said.

Salmonella can cause severe infections in those with weakened immune systems, children younger than 5, and adults older than 65. Symptoms for healthy people include diarrhea (which may be bloody), fever, and abdominal cramps.

If you have severe salmonella symptoms, contact your healthcare provider.
