CANTON – Seven area companies will be recognized this week for their growth, success and contributions to the community with Business Excellence Awards presented by the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce.

This is the 29th year for the annual awards, which will be presented Thursday during a dinner and program at the DoubleTree by Hilton Canton Downtown.

Recipients aren't always large corporations or even businesses with household names, explained Dennis Saunier, the chamber's president and chief executive officer.

"These are companies that are important to our economy, our workforce and sustaining growth in this community," he said.

Smaller businesses are key players in a local economy, and the Business Excellence Award is a way to support and help promote the different employers, Saunier said. The Stark County area is filled with a number of great and innovative companies that merit recognition, he said.

Community members nominate Business Excellence Award winners for the honor. A committee of chamber members, led by Taylor D. Schauer, executive vice president and chief financial officer at Schauer Group, reviewed the nominees and selected this year's recipients.

Along with growth and community involvement, the committee researches the stability, entrepreneurship, innovation and customer service provided by nominees.
