CANTON—The Canton Little Giants boys basketball team broke 13-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 64-43 victory over Brimfield at Ingersoll Gym.

Connor Wilcoxen’s 24 points and Turner Plumer’s 16 led the win over 12-6 Brimfield.

Canton is now 2-17 for the season.

The Little Giants sophomores took a 45-42 victory.

Canton plays a 7 p.m. game at Geneseo Saturday.

•Playing in Class 2A this season, the Little Giants have been assigned to the 24-team Mendota Sectional to start IHSA regional tourney play next month.

Canton joins sub-sectional A with Mercer County, Farmington, Knoxville, Monmouth-Roseville, Orion, Port Byron, Prophetstown, Rock Falls, Alleman, Savanna, Sherrard and Rockridge.

In sub-sectional B are Byron, Chillicothe IVC, Eureka, Kewanee, Bureau Valley, Mendota, Oregon, Princeton, Spring Valley Hall, Stillman Valley and Winnebago.

Team seeding is Feb. 9 and regionals open Feb. 18.

•The Canton girls basketball team opened a busy week with three losses to drop their season record to 7-14.

The Lady Giants fell to Morton 61-39 on Monday, lost to Brimfield 59-33 on Tuesday and dropped a 42-35 decision at Pekin on Thursday.

Allison Wheeler scored 15 points to lead Canton against Morton, Jena Goforth had 10 points versus Brimfield and Wheeler led with 16 at Pekin.

The Canton sophomores improved to 15-1 for the season with a 39-20 win at Pekin.

The Lady Giants are scheduled to play at Farmington, 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Limestone.

•The Canton girls have been assigned to the Class 2A Chillicothe IVC sectional by the IHSA for regional play.

Canton joins sub-sectional B with Bloomington Central Catholic, Eureka, Farmington, Deer Creek-Mackinaw, Macomb, Midwest Central, Normal U-high, Peoria Manual, Peoria Heights, Olympia and Tremont.

In sub-sectional A are Mercer County, IVC, Kewanee, Knoxville, Bureau Valley, Monmouth-Roseville, Orion, Princeton, Sherrard, Spring Valley Hall and Rockridge.

Teams will be seeded next week and regionals will open Feb. 11.
