CANTON ‒ A city teen will spend 23 years to life in prison for the shooting death of Tramell M. Childs.

Antoine Forrester, 18, pleaded no contest Wednesday to five counts, including murder, aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and felonious assault in Stark County Common Pleas courtroom of Judge Natalie Haupt. Each count included a firearm specification. (This paragraph has been updated, see correction below.)

Haupt found Forrester guilty on all charges and sentenced him to 23 years to life in prison. He will be required to register as a violent offender.

Tramell Childs killed in Canton

Police were called at 10:19 a.m. April 20 to a home in the 1000 block of Third Street NW.

They arrived to find Childs, 46, on the kitchen floor of his home with a gunshot wound to his neck. Paramedics took Childs to Aultman Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Forrester, then 17, and 15-year-old Tyvon Hall, of Canton, were arrested and charged with juvenile counts of complicity to commit murder, complicity to felonious assault and complicity to aggravated burglary.

Forrester's case was transferred to common pleas court and he was later indicted by a Stark County Grand Jury.

In a 911 call, a woman can be heard screaming at a dispatcher that her friend had been shot and that "kids" kicked the door in.

Juvenile also guilty of aggravated murder

In September, Hall pleaded guilty to juvenile counts of aggravated murder, felonious assault, aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery.

As part of the plea deal, prosecutors agreed to drop the murder charge and all of the firearm specifications as long as he continued to cooperate with authorities.

Hall is classified as a serious youthful offender and was sentenced to a minimum of five years up to the age of 21 in the Department of Youth Services. The adult sentence was 15 years to life.

If Hall violates parole or is charged with another crime, the adult sentence will automatically be imposed.
