CANTON – A man accused of strangling the mother of his children early Thursday morning was shot hours later at 2nd Street NW and Junction Court NW.

Canton police are asking anyone with information about the shooting, which took place around 6:25 p.m., to contact the detective bureau.

A witness told a 911 dispatcher that three males took off running toward the Stark County Fairgrounds and the victim got into a car and left the scene.

Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital contacted police and notified them of a gunshot victim who had transported himself for treatment.

According to police, the man was shot multiple times in the stomach, legs and hand. His condition was unavailable.

The victim had reportedly been in an altercation with his children's mother earlier in the day of the shooting and was accused of strangling the woman, according to police reports. A domestic violence complaint was filed against the man.
