Cape Cod Baseball League announces 21st Hall of Fame Class. Here's who will be inducted

The Cape Cod Baseball League announced its 21st Hall of Fame Class this week. The class features five former players and a longtime league executive, for a total of six members which will be honored in a ceremony on Nov. 20.

The ceremony will be held at Wequassett Inn in Harwich. Tickets cost $90 and will include brunch prior to the ceremony and admission to the Hall of Fame Induction ceremony.

The Members of the class are:

Marcus Stroman, MLB pitcher

Played for the Orleans Firebirds

Now an eight-year MLB veteran, the 2017 gold glove winner suited up for the Firebirds in the summer of 2010, following his freshman campaign at Duke University. Stroman dominated all summer for the Firebirds, throwing 28 scoreless innings, holding opposing hitters to a .120 batting average, and recording 11 saves, en route to an East Division All-Star selection. He added six more scoreless innings in a 2011 pit stop in the league, bringing his career workload to 34 scoreless innings across two summers.

Ian Happ, MLB outfielder

Played for Harwich Mariners

Happ was a member of both the 2013 and 2014 Harwich Mariners. Happ is someone at the Major League level who's known for his versatility, and his time on the Cape was no different. Happ played seven different positions in his super utility summers, including getting some innings on the mound. Happ began his career on a temporary contract before finishing the year with a .293 average, five home runs, and over 20 runs and RBI's. In 2014, Happ upped his average (.329), RBI's (26), runs (25), and doubles (12). The Cincinnati Bearcat was a two team East Division All-Star.

Billy Wagner, MLB pitcher

Played for Brewster Whitecaps

This will be the second Hall of Fame Honor for the former Whitecap, after Wagner was previously inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019 for his career with Ferrum College. Wagner owns the highs strikeout per nine innings rate in Cape League history (16.2 K/9), and struck out 79 batters in 44 innings in 1992. He was voted the league's Outstanding Pro Prospect that year after posting a 3-2 record with a 3.59 ERA.

Justin Smoak,MLB Pitcher

Played for Cotuit Kettleers

Smoak arrived at Lowell park after his freshman season at South Carolina and instantly found success. He went on to hit a league-leading 11 home runs, and had a slugging percentage of .565 en route to the League MVP award. Smoak went on to rewrite the Gamecocks record books and had a successful 11-year Major League career.

Patrick Biondi, MBL outfielder

Played for Cotuit Kettleers

Biondi's first taste of Cape League action for Cotuit in 2011 had mixed results. His average was below .200, but he reached 12 steals. It was his second season in 2012, that the Michigan product really took off. He led the league with a .388 average, 37 runs scored, 19 RBIs and 14 steals. He was voted Cotuit's team MVP, and a West Division All-Star.

Steven Wilson, Cape Cod Baseball League Executive

Wilson was a loyal servant of the League, who volunteered for over 30 years. Wilson served as the League's Treasurer, and is credited with ushering the League into more financial security with his five-year plans drawing particular praise. Wilson also helped the League be promoted across the country by advocating for improved broadcasting capabilities. Wilson began with the League in 1986 and was named as the Richard (Dick) Sullivan Executive of the Year in 2008.
