Cape Cod weather forecast: How long will sunny streak last?

Three straight days of mostly sunny weather on Cape Cod in the spring? That's almost national news! Thus, it is my pleasure to report that Sunday through Tuesday looks pretty darn good in the forecast department.

Sunday looks to be the warmest day of our somewhat terrific trio, according to the National Weather Service, with high temperatures in the mid-50s. Breezy conditions will prevail, with west winds of up to 17 mph swinging across Cape Cod Bay. And hold onto your hats: expect gusts as high as 28 mph.

Things cool down a bit after that, with high temps on Monday and Tuesday expected to be in the 40s. Monday will start off sunny with a high temp around 49, practically tropical to hardy New Englanders.

Early spring gardening tips

For those looking to get a head start on gardening, it may be wise to avoid cleaning out garden beds until things warm up to a consistent 50 degrees during the day, to protect over-wintering pollinators.

But there's still lots to do this time of year. I spoke with gardening expert C.L Fornari early last spring, and she said it's a good time to trim ornamental grasses or butterfly bushes or rake your lawn. Pile trimmings off to the side and birds can use them to build nests. Plan and prepare for the big season to come.

Learn more about nor'easters

We certainly aren't encouraging those pesky nor'easters to take a Cape vacation anytime soon, but they are frequent flyers to our neighborhood. So it may be wise to learn a bit more about them and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has a handy online primer. You'll learn that "nor’easters usually develop in the latitudes between Georgia and New Jersey, within 100 miles east or west of the East Coast," and a whole lot more.
