Cape Cod weather forecast: Nice payoff after a soggy Saturday

The prospect of less than stellar weather on a Saturday can be a bit distressing. You've worked hard all week, and had to observe several spectacular and sunny weekdays from afar. So when the weekend comes, you expect (or even demand) a blissful journey through excellent meteorological conditions.

I hate to be Captain Buzzkill, but I might as well just get it out of the way: Saturday is going to be a bit gloomy, served up with rain later in the day. On the plus side, according to the National Weather Service, a good chunk of the day will be merely cloudy. But high temperatures in the lower 40s might have you pulling the long underwear out of the cedar chest.

Rain is expected to move into our region from west to east on Saturday, eventually spattering the Cape some time after 3 p.m. We may see a half inch of precipitation by the time things wind down on Saturday night, teamed up with wind gusts that could top 30 mph.

Fear not, friends: things will brighten considerably on Sunday. Mostly sunny skies will rule, with almost balmy temperatures in the mid 50s. While it will be a bit breezy, don't let that stop you. A triumphant Sunday will mean the weekend is a success.

Will April be warmer than usual?

In the what to expect next month department, the Climate Prediction Center has released the April temperature outlook for the country. Our region has a 40 to 50% probability of above-normal temperatures during the month. That should get those gardens going!
