Cape Cod weather forecast: Unsettled skies may lead to sighs

In the weather world, you've got to play the cards you are dealt, hopefully with a smile. So when the National Weather Service sizes up Thursday and predicts "scattered showers moving across the region, but not expecting a washout," you can say upbeat things to friends and family, like, "cheer up, you might not even need your umbrella!"

But it is a bit tough to see the beautiful weather of the past few days disappear into the compost pile of history. We are heading for a few days of cloudy and unsettled weather on Cape Cod, with rain possible on Thursday and a cloudy Friday.

A wetter and windier period rolls in on Saturday, and while higher elevations of inland locations might see a wintry mix, the Cape will stay in the rain zone. If the National Weather Service forecast holds true, the sun will reemerge on Sunday morning, though it could be a little breezy.

On the bright side, a little rain might be a good thing for Cape gardeners who are shaking off the rust and getting ready to grow again. It's just about time to plant pea seeds outdoors or think about scattering a little wildflower mix in an unused spot.

It's also cheering to note that Barnstable County has emerged from drought status over the last few months according to Drought.gov.

In case you're keeping track, here is the National Weather Service snow cover map for our region. Looks like you would have to drive about two hours from the Cape to see any white stuff on the ground.
