Cape Codder Resort & Spa to be sold

HYANNIS ― William and Debra Catania, the brother-sister owners of the Cape Codder Resort & Spa, plan to sell the resort they have owned since 2000.

Plymouth-based Linchris Hotel Corporation is the buyer, Catania said. A deal is in place but has not been finalized. The closing is scheduled for Dec. 5, but that could change, he said.

Catania said the Hearth ‘N Kettle Restaurant was not part of the sale. He did not share a sale price.

“It was a difficult decision for Deb and I,” Catania said in a telephone interview Wednesday. “We have a lot of long-term employees. We really respect and appreciate deeply the employees who have worked for us over the decades”

Hearth ‘N Kettle Properties purchased the resort and spa in 2000 for $7.5 million, according to the Barnstable Registry of Deeds. The property at 1225 Iyannough Road is assessed at $18,941,800.

Built in 1973, the resort has gone through several ownership changes. Catania said it was important to find a company that has a similar reputation and has been around for a while.

“They (Linchris) are family owned, have similar core values, and one of the contingencies was that they would keep everyone on board,” Catania said. “Their intention is to keep everybody.”

There are 190 employees at the Cape Codder.

Bob Anderson, senior vice president of operations at Linchris, wrote in a Nov. 16 email that Linchris had not purchased the Cape Codder.

“If that changes, we will certainly send out a press release,” he wrote.

William Catania and his wife, Libby, an ordained minister, plan to open the Limina Renewal Center on Penobscot Bay in 2023.
